BLACKPINK released “As If It’s Your Last” as a surprise gift for their fans intended to refresh them during the summer heat. A sort of prequel to the third edition of their SQUARE’ series, this track was BLACKPINK’s first song to be released as a single title track rather than part of a double. The song is centered around a heavy synth and bass line, with a variety of drum rhythms keeping the beat. In the classic YG Entertainment style, hip-hop and mood-building verses work together to build up to a catchy hook. Differing slightly from their previous releases, BLACKPINK shows a more free and upbeat side to themselves with this track. The lyrics, of course, talk about love a ride-or-die type of love, encouraging the listener to give their all as it if was the only love of their life. The choreography centers around the infamous finger heart so commonly shown by K-Idols, as if BLACKPINK offers their love to their audience. BLACKPINK teased this song through a variety of means, including multiple teaser photos, an MV teaser, and a behind-the-scenes preview, although the hairstyle changes on each member prior to the news of a comeback built the hype enough to begin with. They also aired a live broadcast on Naver’s V-Live around 2 hours after dropping the track and music video.
